This book is a collection of articles/interviews with different people in regards to Angels & Demons, the novel by Dan Brown. Through the articles, they describe areas where Dan Brown stretched the truth, got things right, and got things wrong. One example of the truth behind the story is about the Pope. I didn’t know prior to reading this, that at one point in history there was a married Pope. Pope Hormisdas (514-523) had his son become Pope Silverius (536-537). Even St. Peter was married.
Another article covers who is truly buried in St. Peter’s Tomb beneath the Vatican. There are many controversies. In the past Margherita Guarducci tried to claim they had found the bones of St. Peter within the Vatican. Her predecessor had them examined though and found out they were pig, ox, sheep and mouse bones. Some also report that they were the bones of an old woman, not a sixty something year old man.
They go through this pater for information on The Illuminati, Art, Retinal Scans, Antimatter. They go through plot holes, and leave no stone unturned. I really enjoyed this book, and found it truly interesting to see some history uncovered that I hadn’t known before. I did however, feel at some points that some of the writers were writing with a sense of bitterness. Whether it was over Dan Brown’s success, or whether they just truly disagreed with his writing style I can’t be sure of. If you liked Angels & Demons though, and want to see a lot of what’s behind it, pick this book up. I think you’ll find something in it you didn’t know before. One caveat though, if you haven’t read Angels & Demons, or seen the movie, do so before reading this. You’ll avoid a lot of spoiler information.
